Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. Additionally, it serves as an adjunct for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, applicable in both cases with or without secondary generalized symptoms. It is also helpful in the treatment of fibromyalgia. In summary, this medication is used for the relief of neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment of partial seizures in epilepsy, and treatment of fibromyalgia.
This medication is taken orally without regard to food, divided into two doses per day. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg once a day, can be increased to 300 mg daily after 3 to 7 days, may increase to a maximum of 600 mg at 7-day intervals if necessary. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg once a day, can be increased to 300 mg daily after one week.
There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years old and adolescents aged 12 to 17, thus administration is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors; therefore, if symptoms of depression or mood changes occur during use, one should consult a doctor immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as adjustments to blood glucose control medications may be necessary due to potential weight gain. If symptoms of angioedema occur, discontinue this medication immediately and inform healthcare professionals. Elderly patients should exercise caution, particularly at the start of treatment, due to the risk of dizziness or drowsiness leading to falls. If experiencing blurred vision or changes in eyesight, consult a doctor. Sudden discontinuation of this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, and anxiety, so it should be tapered off gradually under a doctor's guidance. Patients with a history of substance abuse should take this medication with caution due to the potential risk of misuse. Patients with impaired renal function may require dose adjustments. Patients with heart conditions should use this medication with care. When taken with opioid analgesics, there is an increased risk of central nervous system depression, so caution should be exercised. This medication may cause drowsiness and dizziness; thus activities such as driving or operating hazardous machinery should only be performed after confirming one’s symptoms. During early pregnancy, there may be an increased risk of fetal malformations, so use during pregnancy is not recommended, and women of childbearing age should employ effective contraception. While breastfeeding, as this medication can be passed into breast milk, discussions with a doctor regarding either stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing the medication are advised. In cases of overdose, severe drowsiness, confusion, and seizures may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention and potentially blood dialysis treatment. Keep out of reach of children, and do not transfer to other containers as a precaution. This medication may have various side effects; therefore, any new symptoms or abnormal reactions should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately.
Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweats, paleness, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral or ocular mucous membranes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headaches, lightning headaches, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis.
Dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, loss of orientation, irritability, depression, euphoria, decreased libido, insomnia, depersonalization, sexual dysfunction, restlessness, anxiety, mood swings, decreased emotional responses, increased emotional responses, difficulty finding appropriate terminology, hallucinations, abnormal dreams, increased libido, panic attacks, impulsiveness, apathy, ataxia, coordination difficulties, balance disorders, memory loss, attention deficit, memory impairment, tremors, dysarthria, sensory disturbances, sensory loss.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Store this medication in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture, and it is recommended to keep it in a cool place between 15 to 30 degrees Celsius.
