Efficacy & effects

Nutritional improvement through trace element supply

View approved original text

The appropriate supply of nutrients including trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, and chromium during intravenous nutrition can help maintain the balance of trace elements in the body and normalize metabolic functions. These trace elements play important roles in enzyme activation, enhancement of immune function, and antioxidant actions, contributing to the patient's recovery and health maintenance. Therefore, the supply of trace elements during intravenous nutrition therapy is essential and is used to improve overall therapeutic effects.

How it is given

Precautions

This medication should not be used in premature infants and neonates due to the inclusion of benzyl alcohol, which can cause fatal respiratory problems in this age group. Direct intravenous injection of this medication without dilution may induce phlebitis, so it must be used after dilution. Additionally, it is a hypotonic solution and should only be used when injected mixed with other medications. Although the trace elements included in this medication do not exhibit toxicity at usual doses, if signs of toxicity occur during administration, treatment should be discontinued immediately. The physician must accurately assess the patient's condition and the required metabolic load before administration, and the blood levels of trace elements should be frequently monitored to adjust the dosage. Caution is required in patients with impaired renal function or biliary obstruction, as the excretion of certain trace elements may be compromised, leading to accumulation in the body. The safety of this medication during pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential has not been sufficiently established; therefore, it should only be used when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. In cases of overdose, toxic symptoms may arise from zinc, copper, chromium, and selenium, necessitating immediate appropriate measures. This medication should not be used without a doctor's prescription, and when added to non-oral nutritional solutions, aseptic conditions must be maintained. Before administration, the solution should be checked for discoloration or precipitates, and it should be stored in a cool, dry place out of reach of children. Furthermore, transferring the solution to a different container should be avoided as it can lead to deterioration and accidents.
