This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults and serves as an adjunctive for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, whether or not accompanied by generalized symptoms. It is also effective for the treatment of fibromyalgia, helping to relieve patients' pain.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is to be taken orally without regard to meals, with the total daily dose divided into two doses per day. 1. Neuropathic pain 1) Peripheral neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150 mg per day, which may be increased to 300 mg after 3 to 7 days, and potentially to a maximum of 600 mg at 7-day intervals as needed. 2) Central neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after one week.

Child dose

There is insufficient data regarding safety and efficacy for children under the age of 12 and adolescents aged 12 to 17, so administration is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so any changes in mood or behavior during treatment should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with allergies to any of the ingredients should not take this medication, and those with certain genetic conditions, such as lactose intolerance, should also avoid it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may necessitate adjustments in diabetes control medications. If symptoms of angioedema occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Patients with respiratory or central nervous system conditions, kidney impairment, and elderly patients may have an increased risk of severe respiratory depression, thus dosage adjustments may be necessary. Pregnant women should avoid this medication in early pregnancy due to the risk of fetal malformations, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consider that this drug can be transmitted through breast milk, and may need to discontinue breastfeeding or the medication. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery due to risks from dizziness and drowsiness. Severe skin reactions may rarely occur, and if abnormal skin symptoms arise, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Overdose may result in symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, and depression; treatment such as dialysis may be required if necessary.
