Improvement of essential hypertension
Essential hypertension is a condition characterized by persistently high blood pressure due to various factors. This medication is used when individual component treatment alone does not demonstrate sufficient effect, effectively controlling blood pressure. It helps stabilize the patient's blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. Through safe and steady use, it aids in maintaining healthy blood pressure. This drug is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.
The recommended dose is 1 tablet once a day, regardless of meals. Adults should switch to this drug after adjusting the dose of candesartan cilexetil. Antihypertensive effects typically occur within 4 weeks of administration. No separate dose adjustment is needed for the elderly. Patients with reduced effective blood volume and renal impairment should have the initial dose of candesartan cilexetil adjusted; it should not be administered to patients with severe renal impairment.
This medication may increase the risk of severe harm or death to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Individuals allergic to this drug's components or sulfonamide-class drugs, pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant, and patients with severe kidney or liver dysfunction should not take this medication. Patients with decreased blood volume or electrolyte imbalances, liver disease patients, individuals with heart valve problems, patients with hyperkalemia, the elderly, and patients with certain diseases should use this drug cautiously. This medication lowers blood pressure, so symptoms of sudden hypotension or dizziness may occur, and electrolyte imbalances may arise due to its diuretic effect, thus regular blood tests and following the physician's guidance are necessary. Due to the hydrochlorothiazide component, the skin may become sensitive to sunlight, necessitating attention to UV protection and skin care, as there is an increased risk of non-melanoma skin cancer, making it essential to periodically check skin condition. During the course of this medication, interactions may occur with other blood pressure medications, diuretics, potassium supplements, specific antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), so it is critical to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any currently taken medications. Breastfeeding women should consult a doctor or discontinue breastfeeding as this medication may pass into breast milk, and its safety and efficacy in children or adolescents under 18 years are not established. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and electrolyte imbalance may occur, requiring immediate visit to a medical institution, and it should be stored out of reach of children in its original container for safety. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery as dizziness or fatigue may occur.
