Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (intolerance to ACE inhibitors), reduction of mortality risk after myocardial infarction
This drug is mainly used for the treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure in patients intolerant to ACE inhibitors. It also helps to reduce the risk of death in patients with left ventricular dysfunction after myocardial infarction. In other words, it effectively controls hypertension, improves cardiac function, and prevents cardiovascular complications. Due to these effects, it significantly helps manage overall heart health for patients. This drug is used for essential hypertension, heart failure, and reducing mortality risk after myocardial infarction.
For essential hypertension, oral administration of 80 mg once daily as valsartan is recommended. If blood pressure control is difficult, the dose may be increased to 160 mg once a day, and a maximum of 320 mg can be reached. For elderly patients (75 years or older), treatment should start at 40 mg once daily. In patients with renal impairment, treatment should start at 40 mg once daily when creatinine clearance is 10–20 mL/min, and for less than 10 mL/min
Safety and efficacy have not been established in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Elderly patients or those with high potassium levels should use this medication cautiously, and it is advisable to limit the daily dose to below 80mg in cases of liver disease. Patients with heart valve disease or related heart issues, as well as those with fluid or sodium depletion, should be cautious due to the risk of hypotension. Patients with renal artery stenosis or those recovering from heart failure or myocardial infarction are at risk for worsening kidney function and should have regular kidney function tests. It is advisable not to take this medication within 24 hours before surgery. Taking with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect and worsen kidney function, especially in the elderly or those with fluid depletion. When taken with lithium preparations, lithium levels may rise, resulting in toxicity, so blood levels should be monitored closely. An overdose of this drug can lead to severe hypotension, decreased consciousness, shock, etc., and immediate medical attention is required in such cases.
