Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also effective as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy patients, whether or not accompanied by secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it is utilized for the treatment of fibromyalgia, helping to relieve pain. It is used for various disorders related to pain and the nervous system.
This medication is taken orally, divided into two doses per day, regardless of meals. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Initial dose of 150 mg per day. After 3-7 days, it may be increased to 300 mg daily, and subsequently to a maximum of 600 mg daily in increments at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: Initial dose of 150 mg per day.
The use of this medication is not recommended for children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12-17, as there is insufficient safety and efficacy data.
This medication should be carefully monitored during use, as it may lead to mental health issues such as suicidal thoughts, suicidal behavior, or depression. Patients with allergic reactions or specific genetic issues like lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Diabetic patients may experience weight gain after taking this medication, necessitating adjustment of their blood glucose control medications. If symptoms of angioedema occur, such as swelling of the face or around the mouth, the medication should be stopped immediately. Elderly patients may show symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion, so special care should be taken during the initial period of administration. This medication may cause temporary blurring of vision or changes in eyesight, so patients should consult with medical professionals if any abnormal symptoms occur. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, and anxiety, so it should be tapered off gradually. Patients with a history of drug abuse may have a heightened risk of misuse of this medication, so they should use it cautiously. Patients with impaired renal function may require dose adjustments. Patients with heart disease should also take this medication cautiously. Caution is needed when combining this medication with opioid analgesics, as it could enhance central nervous system depression. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should consult with a healthcare provider before use, as it may affect the fetus in early pregnancy. Breastfeeding women should consider cessation of breastfeeding or the medication, as it may be excreted in breast milk. Patients may experience dizziness and drowsiness while taking this medication, thus avoiding driving or operating hazardous machinery is advisable. In case of overdose, symptoms such as mental confusion, drowsiness, depression, or seizures may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment. It is essential for patients needing special attention, such as children or the elderly, to consult with healthcare professionals before use. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
