Short-term adjunctive treatment for weight reduction in exogenous obesity
This medication is used as an adjunct therapy for patients with obesity who do not respond to appropriate dietary and exercise regimens. It is particularly applicable to patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or those with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia with a BMI of 27 or higher. It helps effectively reduce weight by complementing weight loss treatment based on exercise, behavioral modification, and caloric restriction. This medication should be used alone and not in conjunction with other appetite suppressants, and is intended for short-term weight loss support. It promotes weight reduction and improvement of health risk factors in obesity management.
Adults: Administer 37.5 mg of phentermine hydrochloride orally once daily, before breakfast or 1 ~ 2 hours after breakfast. Use the lowest effective dose, adjusting the dose individually to achieve an adequate response. A dose of 18.75 mg once daily may be appropriate for some patients, while in some cases it may be preferable to take 18.75 mg twice daily. Avoid taking this medicine late at night because it may cause insomnia. This medicine should be administered for a short term (within 4 weeks). However, to reduce the risk of inappropriate use, treatment may be continued if the patient achieves satisfactory weight loss within the first 4 weeks (at least 1.8 kg of weight loss, or weight loss considered satisfactory by both the physician and patient).
This medication should not be used in conjunction with other appetite suppressants and should only be used alone for a short period. During the use of this medication, symptoms such as dyspnea, angina pectoris, fainting, and leg swelling, which are early signs of a serious lung condition called primary pulmonary hypertension, may occur; inform your doctor immediately if symptoms appear. There may be a risk associated with heart valve diseases, so the long-term use of high doses or combination with other appetite suppressants should be avoided. Patients with certain conditions, such as advanced atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, moderate to severe hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, or hyperthyroidism, should not take this medication. Additionally, individuals with an allergic reaction to this medication, those sensitive to agents that excessively stimulate the sympathetic nervous system, glaucoma patients, those who are very anxious or agitated, and those with a history of substance abuse should not take it. This medication should not be administered to children under 16 years old or to pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nor to individuals with specific genetic disorders such as lactose intolerance. Diabetic patients or those with mild hypertension need special precautions when using this medication, and diabetic patients may require insulin dosage adjustments. This medication may affect the central nervous system, resulting in side effects such as anxiety, dizziness, and insomnia, and may also cause cardiovascular abnormalities such as increased heart rate and blood pressure. In case of overdose, symptoms may include anxiety, stupor, seizures, serious cardiovascular abnormalities, and gastrointestinal symptoms; therefore, caution is needed, and immediate medical attention should be sought in the event of an overdose. This medication may interact dangerously with alcohol, so it should not be taken with alcoholic beverages. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this medication cautiously under a doctor's judgment as it may pose risks to the fetus or infant. This medication should be stored safely out of reach of children, and due to its potential for abuse, dependence, and addiction, it must only be taken under the direction of a physician.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
