Treatment of central nervous system and gastrointestinal infections, improvement of blepharitis and conjunctivitis
This injection is used to treat infections caused by various bacteria such as Pseudomonas, Proteus, and Escherichia coli. It is primarily effective against meningitis, pneumonia, peritonitis, osteomyelitis, and various skin and soft tissue infections. It is also applicable for severe urinary tract infections such as sepsis, pyelonephritis, and cystitis. Forms of eye drops or ointments are used to treat infections around the eyes such as blepharitis, dacryocystitis, styes, conjunctivitis, and keratitis. This medication effectively improves symptoms of infections caused by various bacteria and helps in the rapid recovery of patients.
Injection: For severe infections, administer tobramycin at 3mg (activity) per kg of body weight in 3 divided doses via intravenous or intramuscular injection per day. In life-threatening infections, it may be given up to 5mg (activity) per kg of body weight in 3 to 4 divided doses, and once symptoms improve, the dose should be reduced to 3mg (activity) per kg of body weight per day. Do not administer more than 5mg (activity) per kg of body weight without measuring serum concentrations.
Injection: Administer 5mg (activity) per kg of body weight in 3 to 4 divided doses via intravenous or intramuscular injection per day. Newborns (less than 1 week old): Administer 4mg (activity) per kg of body weight in divided doses every 12 hours.
This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic primarily used for treating infections. This medication should not be used for certain patients. For instance, it is unsafe for patients who are allergic to this medication, aminoglycoside antibiotics, or bacitracin, individuals with inner or middle ear diseases, severe renal failure, pregnant or nursing women, patients with muscular disorders, those with bronchial asthma, and patients with disorders of the eighth cranial nerve. Moreover, this medication should be used cautiously for patients with a family history of hearing loss, those with poor renal function, patients with liver impairment, premature infants and newborns, the elderly, and individuals with poor nutritional status. While using this medication, it is important to monitor for various side effects that may occur infrequently, such as shock, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, blood abnormalities, dizziness, tinnitus, hearing loss, ear pain, a feeling of ear blockage, numbness of lips or limbs, drowsiness, headache, somnolence, mental confusion, loss of local sensation, heavy feeling, nonsensical speech, directional sense loss, ALT elevation, AST elevation, increased serum LDH, elevated bilirubin, increased BUN, and elevated NPN. Particularly, because this medication can affect the kidneys or hearing, it is recommended that the treatment duration not exceed 10 days if possible, and if necessary, regular blood concentration and hearing tests are important. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is required when using it in combination with blood substitutes or specific anesthetics, muscle relaxants, anticoagulants, loop diuretics, etc., that may affect kidney function. During pregnancy, it may cause neurological abnormalities in newborns, so it should only be administered when absolutely necessary. In breastfeeding, it may be transmitted into breast milk, so discontinuation of breastfeeding is recommended during its use. For children and the elderly, kidney function may be weaker, so dosages and administration intervals should be adjusted and used with caution. In case of overdose, serious side effects such as renal and auditory impairment, respiratory suppression, etc., may occur, necessitating immediate appropriate medical treatment. When using eye drops or ointment, localized itching, redness, and irritation around the eyes may occur, and it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses. In addition, to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, it should be used for the minimum necessary duration as determined by sensitivity testing, and care should be taken as prolonged and repeated use may lead to excessive growth of resistant bacteria. This medication should not be injected directly into the eye, and care should be taken to avoid contact between the end of the tube and the eye surface during administration.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), shock, exfoliative dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, severe allergic reactions, severe skin reactions, respiratory suppression, respiratory failure, kidney failure, acute renal failure, oliguria, jaundice, serious neurological symptoms (including paralysis), severe edema associated with increased blood pressure
