Efficacy & effects

This medication is used for gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, recurrent ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also effective in improving lesions such as mucosal erosion, hemorrhaging, erythema, and edema, thus assisting in the treatment of acute exacerbations of acute and chronic gastritis. It suppresses gastric acid secretion or protects the mucosa to alleviate symptoms and promote healing in these conditions. Patients are advised to take this medication consistently to aid in improving their gastrointestinal health.

Precautions

This medication should be handled with great care when using glass ampules, as glass fragments may be introduced during the cutting of the container. Special caution is necessary, especially when used in children or the elderly. This medication should not be taken by patients with hypersensitivity or a history of reactions to it, patients currently taking dofetilide, and those with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. Patients with impaired renal or hepatic function, a history of drug hypersensitivity, elderly patients, children under 19 years old, and patients undergoing hemodialysis should use this medication cautiously. This medication may mask the symptoms of gastric cancer, so it should only be administered after confirming non-malignancy, and patients with Helicobacter pylori infection require eradication treatment. Various side effects may occur, including blood dyscrasias, liver dysfunction, kidney issues, hypersensitivity reactions, endocrine and gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological disturbances, and skin reactions, so if symptoms occur, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Blood tests may be necessary, and in severe cases, administration should be discontinued. This medication has many interactions with other drugs, so careful dose adjustments or medication breaks may be needed when taken alongside warfarin, midazolam, diazepam, propranolol, and others. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks of this medication, and those who are breastfeeding should discontinue nursing. In children and the elderly, there may be an increase in blood concentration due to impaired renal function, necessitating dose adjustments and extended dosing intervals. In cases of overdose, severe side effects such as respiratory depression may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment. When used as an injection, it is essential to avoid rapid intravenous administration and to administer slowly to reduce the risk of side effects.
