Dosage

Adults should start with allopurinol at 100 mg per day to avoid a rapid decrease in serum uric acid levels, increasing by 100 mg weekly until the target serum uric acid level is reached. The maximum dosage should not exceed 800 mg per day. For mild gout, the dosage is 100 to 300 mg per day; for moderate tophaceous gout, it is 300 to 600 mg per day; and for severe tophaceous gout, it is 600 to 800 mg per day, divided into 1 to 3 doses.
