Improvement of peripheral and central neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia, adjunct treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also prescribed as an adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy patients and is effective for relieving fibromyalgia symptoms. It is used for the management of various neurological disorders and pain.
This medication is orally administered divided into two doses daily, irrespective of meals, placed on the tongue, allowed to dissolve, and then swallowed without water. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day. Increase to 300 mg per day within 3 to 7 days if needed. Maximum can be increased to 600 mg per day. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day.
There are insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12-17 years, so use is not recommended.
This medication, as an anticonvulsant, may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so it is important to consult a physician immediately if there are any changes in mood or behavior during treatment. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication should not use it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may require adjustment in blood sugar control medications. If serious allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, discontinue the medication immediately and inform healthcare professionals. Elderly patients should be particularly careful at the start of treatment due to the risk of falls from dizziness or drowsiness. Vision changes or blurred vision may occur, and it is advisable to consult a physician if these symptoms arise. Discontinuing this medication suddenly may result in withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety; therefore, it should be gradually reduced under a physician's guidance. Due to the risk of drug abuse, patients with a history of substance abuse should exercise increased caution. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments. Patients with heart disease should be cautious as edema or symptoms of heart failure may occur with this medication. This medication has central nervous system depressant effects; caution is advised when taking it with other sedatives or opioid analgesics due to an increased risk of respiratory depression. During early pregnancy, it may affect the fetus, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a physician before use and should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should avoid breastfeeding while taking this medication as it may pass into breast milk and affect the baby. Activities requiring attention, such as driving or operating machinery, should be avoided until the dizziness or drowsiness from this medication subsides. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and seizures may occur, and emergency treatment should be sought immediately. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.
