Efficacy & effects

Treatment of moderate to severe active ulcerative colitis in adults

  • Ulcerative colitis
  • moderate to severe active ulcerative colitis
View approved original text

This medication is used for patients aged 18 years and older with moderate to severe active ulcerative colitis who do not respond appropriately to conventional treatments such as corticosteroids, azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP), or biological agents, or who cannot tolerate them. However, caution is needed for patients over 65 years of age, those at high cardiovascular risk, and those at risk for malignancies. This medication should not be used in conjunction with powerful immunosuppressants such as azathioprine or cyclosporine. Therefore, this medication is used to improve the symptoms of ulcerative colitis patients who do not respond to existing treatments.
