Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes, with primary ingredients being Empagliflozin and Metformin. It may occasionally cause a serious side effect called lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening, so caution is advised. Additionally, when used with insulin or sulfonylureas, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so care should be taken. This medication should not be administered to certain patients, such as those with severe renal impairment, acute infections, heart diseases, type 1 diabetes patients, or pregnant women. Before and after examinations using iodine contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and renal function should be assessed before resuming. Patients with mild renal impairment, elderly patients, or those at risk of fluid loss should be especially cautious when administering this medication and should regularly monitor renal function. This medication may cause side effects in some patients, such as urinary tract infections, genital infections, and increased urination, so patients should consult healthcare providers if symptoms occur. Due to the presence of Metformin, gastrointestinal disturbances may arise, and vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so it is advisable to check vitamin B12 levels during long-term usage. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment, as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed, and dosage adjustments and regular testing may be required for the elderly or those with impaired renal function. Patients should inform their healthcare provider immediately if they experience fever, genital pain, rash, severe gastrointestinal symptoms, or symptoms of hypoglycemia while taking this medication. In cases of surgery or serious illness, patients may need to discuss with their healthcare provider whether to temporarily discontinue this medication. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is important to inform the healthcare provider of any other medications being taken.
