Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.
This medication is taken orally once daily, and it should be administered at the same time every day. If necessary, it can be taken twice daily. Dose escalation: The maximum daily dosage is 20 mg, and to minimize the risk of adverse reactions, it is recommended to increase the dose by 5 mg weekly for the first 3 weeks. First week (Day 1-7): Take 5 mg once daily Second week (Day 8-14): Take 10 mg once daily Third week (Day 15-21):
This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to any component of this medication. It is also safest to avoid administration in patients with severely impaired liver function or severely impaired kidney function. Patients with epilepsy or a history of seizures, and those with a predisposition to epilepsy should use this medication with caution. When taken with certain medications, central nervous system side effects may be increased, so it should not be taken with drugs such as amantadine, ketamine, and dextromethorphan. If urine acidity changes, it may affect the excretion of this medication, so close observation is required. There is insufficient data on the use of this medication in patients with recent myocardial infarction, heart failure, or uncontrolled hypertension, so caution is needed. Common side effects when taking this medication may include dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension; if symptoms are severe, consult a doctor. Since there may be interactions with other medications, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider about any medications you are currently taking, especially when used with antipsychotic drugs, muscle relaxants, and anticoagulants. Pregnant women should discuss the use of this medication with their doctor, as its safety has not been established. While breastfeeding, there is a possibility that this medication may pass into breast milk, so nursing should be temporarily discontinued during treatment. This medication has not been established for safety and efficacy in children or adolescents under the age of 18; therefore, it is advisable not to use it in this age group. In cases of overdose, severe symptoms such as coma, hallucinations, seizures, and vomiting may occur, and if overdose is suspected, immediate medical attention should be sought. There is no specific antidote, and treatment will be symptomatic. This medication is administered to patients with severe Alzheimer's disease, so caution is needed as it may impair concentration while driving or operating machinery. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is recommended not to transfer it to another container.
