Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes effectively control their blood sugar levels in conjunction with dietary management and exercise therapy. It is used to reliably maintain blood sugar levels through the combination of linagliptin and metformin.
This medication is to be taken once daily with evening meals. The dosage of metformin hydrochloride should be increased gradually and should not be chewed, split, or crushed to maintain its extended-release properties. The 5/1000 mg extended-release tablet is taken once daily, one tablet at a time. The 2.5/1000 mg extended-release tablet is taken once daily, two tablets simultaneously. 1. Currently on metformin treatment:
This medication may rarely cause serious lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so caution is needed. Patients with allergies to any component of this medication or those with type 1 diabetes, severe renal impairment, liver dysfunction, acute infections, or heart diseases should not use this medication. If taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medications, dosage adjustments may be necessary due to increased risk of hypoglycemia. Patients with decreased renal function should undergo regular kidney function tests, and this medication should not be taken if kidney function is severely impaired. In cases of acute renal failure or receiving iodinated contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after kidney function has recovered. Pregnant or nursing women are advised to avoid using this medication and should consult a physician if planning a pregnancy. This medication should be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed, or split; there is no need to worry if the coating of the tablet is expelled unchanged. Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency; therefore, monitoring through blood tests may be necessary. Patients taking this medication should consult a doctor immediately if sudden abdominal pain, skin rashes, or blistering skin disease symptoms occur. Elderly patients are at higher risk of decreased kidney function, so dosage adjustments and regular kidney function tests are necessary. Overdosage may cause gastrointestinal disturbances or lactic acidosis, so the dosage must be strictly followed as per the doctor's instructions. Additionally, there may be interactions when taken with other medications, so patients should inform their doctors or pharmacists of any other medications they are taking.
