How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dose of this medication is 1 tablet once, twice a day. The maximum recommended daily doses for each ingredient are 25 mg for empagliflozin and 2000 mg for metformin. Precautions

This medication can cause a rare but life-threatening metabolic complication known as severe lactic acidosis, so patients with impaired kidney function or cardiopulmonary disease should exercise caution. The risk of hypoglycemia may occur when this medication is used in combination with other diabetes treatments; therefore, dose adjustments may be necessary when taken alongside insulin or sulfonylureas. Patients who are allergic to any ingredient included in this medication, have moderate or severe renal impairment, acute renal issues, or severe infections should not take this medication. Additionally, it is contraindicated in type 1 diabetes patients, those with acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, acute heart failure, or unstable heart failure, and patients scheduled for tests using radioactive iodine contrast. The use of this medication is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding and is also not advised for children under the age of 18. Regular kidney function tests should be conducted during the course of taking this medication, especially for the elderly or those with reduced kidney function. In patients with a risk of fluid loss, such as dehydration, diarrhea, or vomiting, the use of this medication should be temporarily discontinued or carefully monitored. This medication may increase the risk of urinary tract infections and genital infections, so if infection symptoms appear, immediate consultation with healthcare providers is required. Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency; therefore, it is advisable to regularly check vitamin levels through blood tests. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided during the course of taking this medication, as alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 48 hours before surgery and can resume once kidney function has returned to normal post-surgery. There is insufficient research on the effects of this medication on driving or operating machinery, so caution is required during its use. Overdose of this medication may lead to serious side effects such as lactic acidosis, so immediate medical attention is necessary.
