Blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used in conjunction with dietary control and exercise therapy to help patients with type 2 diabetes manage their blood sugar levels. It is particularly suitable for patients whose blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled, and caution should be exercised for those with cardiovascular diseases. This medication helps improve blood sugar control and assists in diabetes management.
The recommended dose of this medication is 1 tablet once in the morning and once in the evening. The doses should be determined considering each patient's therapy, effectiveness, and tolerance, not exceeding Empagliflozin 25 mg and Metformin 2000 mg. - For patients with insufficient blood sugar control on monotherapy with Metformin or other medications such as insulin, the recommended dose is Empagliflozin 5 mg twice daily (total 10 mg) along with the existing dose of Metformin.
This medication consists of two components that help lower blood sugar levels. Caution is advised as a rare side effect of serious lactic acidosis may occur when taking this medication. Lactic acidosis can lead to excessive accumulation of lactic acid in the body, causing serious health issues that can occasionally be life-threatening. Additionally, when used in conjunction with insulin or other diabetes medications, hypoglycemia may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Patients with poor kidney function, acute kidney problems, serious infections, or heart failure should not use this medication. It should especially not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment. If iodine contrast agents are administered during radiologic examinations, this medication should be discontinued before and after the test, and resuming use should only occur once normal kidney function is confirmed. It is safer for women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are nursing to avoid taking this medication. This medication should be taken with regular monitoring of kidney function, and if dehydration or severe vomiting, diarrhea, etc., occur, it is advisable to temporarily discontinue use. While taking this medication, side effects such as hypoglycemia, urinary tract infections, genital infections, increased urination, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, constipation, abnormal liver function tests, hepatitis, taste disorders, itching, rash, erythema, angioedema, dysuria, thirst, increased serum lipids, increased serum creatinine, increased hematocrit, decreased and deficiency of vitamin B12, decreased fluid volume, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, hypertension, fatigue, weakness, facial edema, and weight changes may occur, and if any unusual symptoms appear, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is essential. Elderly patients or those at risk of fluid loss should take extra caution when using this medication, and regular monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is recommended. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided, and alcoholic beverages should be refrained from while taking this medication. If surgery is planned, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the surgery, and after ensuring normal kidney function postoperative, it can be resumed. During the course of this medication, blood sugar levels should be frequently checked, and dosage adjustments may be necessary when used in conjunction with other medications that pose a risk of hypoglycemia. This medication is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age, and elderly patients require dosage adjustments and regular monitoring based on renal function. In cases of overdose, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment, and prompt treatment is required for lactic acidosis. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in the original container to maintain its quality.
