Improves blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Sitagliptin and Metformin work together to effectively lower blood sugar levels. Therefore, this medication plays an important role in diabetes treatment by improving blood sugar control.
Typically, this medication is taken twice daily with food, and to reduce gastrointestinal side effects caused by Metformin, the dosage should be gradually increased. The initial dose of this medication is determined based on the patient’s current treatment regimen. 1. Patients not currently treated with Metformin: In cases where patients have no prior experience with diabetes medications and where adequate blood sugar control cannot be achieved with monotherapy or Sitagliptin alone.
This medication contains Sitagliptin and Metformin and is used for the treatment of diabetes. Firstly, this medication may rarely cause serious allergic reactions due to the Sitagliptin component. Allergic reactions may include anaphylaxis, angioedema, and severe skin disorders, so if any of these symptoms occur within 3 months after administration, the medication should be discontinued immediately and a doctor should be consulted. Additionally, as Sitagliptin can cause acute pancreatitis, immediate discontinuation of the medication and a hospital visit should be conducted if symptoms of pancreatitis such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur. The Metformin component can cause a rare side effect known as lactic acidosis, which can be fatal, especially in patients with impaired kidney function, poor liver function, or those who consume excessive alcohol. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute heart disease or heart failure, severe infections or dehydration, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Furthermore, patients about to undergo surgery or those who will undergo tests using iodine contrast media should discontinue the medication for a certain period before and after the tests, and it should be resumed only after confirming normal kidney function. During treatment with this medication, regular kidney function and blood tests should be performed, and it is also advisable to periodically check vitamin B12 levels. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, so special attention should be paid to hypoglycemic symptoms, particularly when co-administering with insulin or sulfonylureas, and immediate action should be taken if symptoms occur. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption during treatment, and consultation with a doctor should be conducted in case of sudden dehydration, severe vomiting, or diarrhea. Lastly, this medication is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers as safety has not been established.
