Precautions

This drug is composed of sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. Firstly, while taking this drug, a serious allergic reaction may rarely occur, so if symptoms like skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, this drug can cause a serious side effect known as acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas; therefore, inform medical personnel immediately if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort occur. This drug should not be taken by patients with impaired kidney function, serious infections, dehydration, or heart failure. Also, if you are scheduled to undergo a procedure using a radiocontrast agent, this drug must be stopped for a certain period before and after the test, and you should resume taking it only after verifying that your kidney function is normal. It is not administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, or children under 18 years of age. During treatment, symptoms of hypoglycemia, where blood sugar levels drop too low, may occur, so irregular meals and excessive exercise should be avoided, and patients should pay attention to signs of hypoglycemia. In particular, when taken with other antidiabetic agents or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so dosage adjustments should be made according to a physician's instructions. This drug can affect liver and kidney function, so regular blood tests and kidney function tests should be performed before and during treatment. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of severe side effects such as lactic acidosis, hence drinking should be avoided during use. In case of surgery, this drug should be discontinued 48 hours prior to the surgery and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. Finally, during treatment with this drug, it is important to maintain lifestyle habits necessary for diabetes management, including dietary therapy, regular exercise, and regular blood glucose tests.
