Precautions

This medication consists of two active ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin. Firstly, sitagliptin can, in rare cases, cause severe allergic reactions, which may include anaphylaxis, angioedema, and severe skin rashes or exfoliative skin diseases. If these symptoms occur, you must stop taking the medication immediately and consult your physician. Additionally, sitagliptin may cause acute pancreatitis, characterized by inflammation of the pancreas; if symptoms such as abdominal pain, severe nausea, or vomiting occur, notify healthcare professionals immediately. Metformin carries a risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially life-threatening condition due to the excessive accumulation of lactate in the body leading to acidification of the blood. Symptoms include fatigue, muscle pain, breathing difficulties, and abdominal pain; seek medical attention immediately if these symptoms occur. Particularly, it is safer not to use this medication in patients with impaired kidney function, liver dysfunction, dehydration, severe infections, or cardiovascular diseases. The medication should not be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, acute heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. While taking this medication, there may be symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially if used with other blood glucose-lowering agents or insulin. Blood sugar should be monitored regularly, and one should be alert to symptoms of hypoglycemia. Symptoms include dizziness, trembling, cold sweat, and headache. Upon onset of these symptoms, it is critical to consume sugar promptly. Additionally, it is advisable to avoid alcohol during the course of this medication, as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. If you are scheduled for surgery or a radiographic contrast examination, stop taking this medication temporarily before and after the test, and resume once kidney function has normalized. This medication should preferably not be used in children under 18 years of age, as safety and effectiveness have not been established in this age group. Elderly patients should have regular kidney function assessments, and doses should be adjusted accordingly as kidney function may decline. While taking this medication, if abnormal symptoms such as skin rash, severe joint pain, blistering skin diseases, acute shortness of breath, severe headaches, or dizziness occur, consult your physician immediately. Lastly, this medication should be taken safely under regular blood tests and kidney function assessments to monitor for adverse reactions and drug accumulation.
