How to take

Adult dose

This medication is generally taken twice a day with meals, with a gradual increase in dosage to minimize gastrointestinal side effects from metformin. The initial dose depends on the patient's current therapy. 1. For patients not currently treated with metformin: - For those with no previous experience of diabetes medication or those who find it difficult to control blood sugar with monotherapy using sitagliptin, take 1 tablet of this medication 50/500 mg twice daily.

Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin, which help in controlling blood sugar levels. First, when taking this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur; therefore, if symptoms such as hives, rash, or breathing difficulties occur, stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention. Additionally, pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, may occur rarely; if symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting appear, inform a doctor promptly. Metformin included in this medication can be dangerous for patients with impaired kidney function, especially in cases of moderate or severe impairment. Do not take this medication during acute conditions like dehydration, severe infections, heart attack, or shock. If you are scheduled to undergo tests using iodine contrast agents, temporarily stop taking this medication before and after the tests, and resume only after confirming normal kidney function. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and those who are breastfeeding should not take this medication. During the course of taking this medication, irregular meals or intense exercise, and interactions with other medications may cause hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so caution is advised. In particular, the metformin component can cause lactic acidosis, a severe metabolic disorder; if symptoms such as breathing difficulties, muscle pain, weakness, or abdominal pain occur, seek medical attention immediately. Regular assessments of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted during treatment, and vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, requiring supplementation if necessary. Avoid alcohol as it may increase the risk of side effects from this medication. When undergoing surgery, stop taking this medication 48 hours prior to surgery and resume only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. If taking other hypoglycemic agents or insulin with this medication, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, and dosage adjustments may be required as directed by a physician. Finally, the safety and efficacy of this medication in children under 18 years of age have not been established, so it should not be used in this population.
