Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This drug is used to help improve blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes taking both Teneligliptin and Metformin. When taken in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy, it significantly aids in effectively managing blood sugar levels. Therefore, this drug is used as an adjunct in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal, gradually adjusting the dosage to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with Metformin. The 20/1000 mg extended-release tablet is taken once a day, 1 tablet at a time. Patients taking the 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg extended-release tablets should take 2 tablets at the same time once a day. The initial dosage is Teneligliptin 20 mg once daily.
This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes. However, it may rarely cause a serious side effect called lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening, so caution is advised. Lactic acidosis is a condition where lactic acid accumulates excessively in the body, with symptoms that may include fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, weakness, and abdominal pain. If these symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. This medication is not to be administered to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or heart failure. Additionally, this drug should be discontinued at least 48 hours prior to any tests using radiologic contrast agents and should not be resumed until renal function is confirmed to be normal post-test. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use this medication. It is also not recommended for nursing mothers, and they should consult their physician regarding whether to continue breastfeeding or stop medication. This medication can cause hypoglycemia when used with other diabetes medications; therefore, patients should be well-informed about the symptoms of hypoglycemia and how to manage them. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include dizziness, trembling, cold sweats, and fatigue. Caution should also be exercised when administering this drug to patients with impaired liver function, severe infections, severe trauma, malnutrition, or severe gastrointestinal disturbances. It may be necessary to discontinue the medication for a period before and after surgery. This drug may cause various side effects such as interstitial pneumonia, acute pancreatitis, skin rashes, or allergic reactions; any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. If renal function declines, the excretion of this medication becomes difficult, increasing the risk of side effects, so regular kidney function tests should be conducted, and elderly patients may need dosage adjustments based on their renal function. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of lactic acidosis; therefore, excessive drinking should be avoided while taking this drug. This medication can interact with various other drugs, so if you are taking any other medications, be sure to inform your physician or pharmacist, especially when using heart disease medications, antihypertensives, or other diabetes drugs together. This medication has not been established as safe and effective for children, hence it is not used in pediatric patients. Finally, this medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to other containers.
