Patients taking the 50/500 mg extended release tablet or the 50/1000 mg extended release tablet should take two tablets at once once daily. 1. Precautions

This drug contains two ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin, and is used for diabetes treatment. First, while taking this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur. If you experience symptoms such as rash, itching, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck, you should stop taking it immediately and inform your healthcare provider. In addition, serious inflammation of the pancreas known as acute pancreatitis may develop, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occur, you should consult a doctor immediately. The metformin component of this medication can rarely cause life-threatening metabolic abnormalities known as lactic acidosis, so if you experience sudden fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or reduced consciousness, you must stop taking it immediately and seek emergency treatment. If you have impaired kidney function, using this medication can be risky. Regular kidney function tests should be performed, and if kidney function declines, you should stop taking it. This medication should not be used in patients with certain serious conditions, such as severe kidney impairment, acute heart failure, severe infections, dehydration, or in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. While taking this medication, you should be cautious of hypoglycemic symptoms, especially when taken with other blood sugar-lowering agents, as this can lead to excessively low blood glucose levels; thus, symptoms should be closely monitored. Moreover, alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects associated with this medication, so excessive drinking should be avoided. If you have upcoming surgery, you should stop taking this medication at least 48 hours before the surgery and resume it only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery. It is important to maintain regular meals and exercise while taking this medication and to manage your condition through regular blood sugar and kidney function tests. Finally, this medication is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age or in pregnant or breastfeeding women since its safety has not been established.
