How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage of this medication is 1 tablet per dose, twice daily. The dosage should be determined considering each patient's condition and should not exceed the maximum recommended daily dosage of 25 mg of empagliflozin and 2000 mg of metformin. When used in combination with metformin alone or other drugs like insulin, the recommended dosage is 5 mg of empagliflozin twice daily (total daily dose of 10 mg) and the existing metformin dose. Precautions

This medication consists of two ingredients that help lower blood sugar. However, it can cause serious lactic acidosis, which is very dangerous and can sometimes be fatal. Additionally, there is a risk of hypoglycemia when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, so caution is needed. This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals with allergies to this drug or its components, patients with severe renal impairment, patients with acute conditions affecting the kidneys such as acute infections or dehydration, type 1 diabetes patients, patients with acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, patients with unstable heart failure, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Furthermore, this medication should be temporarily stopped before and after tests using radioactive iodine contrast agents and should be resumed only after kidney function has returned to normal. Patients with reduced kidney function or at risk of fluid loss should be particularly cautious when taking this medication and should have their serum creatinine levels monitored regularly. If taking this medication together with insulin or sulfonylureas, the dosages of those medications may need to be adjusted to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. During treatment with this drug, side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, hypoglycemia, urinary tract infections, genital infections, and increased urination may occur, so it is essential to consult with healthcare professionals if symptoms arise. In particular, if symptoms of lactic acidosis or ketoacidosis are suspected (e.g., fatigue, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting), immediate medical attention should be sought. When administering this medication to elderly patients, the risk of decreased kidney function and fluid loss should be considered when adjusting the dosage, and kidney function should be regularly monitored. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication and should consider alternative therapies if necessary. In case of overdose, there is a risk of lactic acidosis, which requires immediate medical treatment, and blood dialysis may be necessary. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, and it is not recommended for those under 18 years of age. When using this medication, alcohol consumption should be avoided, and if dehydration or hypoxemia occurs, the medication should be immediately discontinued. Finally, this medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals about any other medications being taken.
