Efficacy & effects
Effect of reducing radiation exposure to the kidneys
View approved original textHide original text
Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) using Lutetium-177 (177Lu) oxodotreotide is primarily used in the treatment of certain neuroendocrine tumors. During this treatment process, the kidneys can be exposed to radiation, so methods to reduce radiation exposure to the kidneys are applied to minimize kidney damage. The goal is to maintain the therapeutic effect while reducing side effects. Patients should understand that this treatment is effective for neuroendocrine tumor therapy and that radiation exposure to the kidneys is managed for safety.
How it is given

Precautions
This medication should not be used in patients who have had an allergic reaction to this drug or any of its components. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with elevated serum potassium levels or severely reduced kidney function before administration. Caution is required when using this medication in patients with high serum potassium levels, severe heart failure, metabolic acidosis, or impaired kidney or liver function, and relevant tests should be conducted prior to administration. This medication mainly contains amino acids arginine and lysine; during administration, serum potassium levels may temporarily increase, so monitoring is necessary. In cases of hyperkalemia, symptoms may appear, so it is essential to closely observe for signs such as difficulty breathing, weakness, chest pain, and heart abnormalities. Sufficient fluid intake is recommended during the administration of this drug, and frequent urination is encouraged. In patients with severe heart failure, care must be taken with the volume and osmotic pressure of this medication due to the risk of complications. Attention should also be paid when administering to patients with metabolic acidosis, and most symptoms resolve within 24 hours post-administration. The safety of this drug has not been fully established in pregnant women or nursing mothers; consultation with a specialist is advised if necessary. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been adequately studied in children or elderly patients, hence caution is needed when using. In patients with impaired kidney or liver function, functional tests should be conducted prior to administration, and the benefits and risks of treatment should be carefully considered if necessary. In cases of overdose, excessive fluid or solute may occur; forced diuresis or frequent urination should be used to promote excretion. This drug should not be mixed or diluted with other medications, and it should be stored at or below 25 degrees Celsius, being a single-use item that must be used immediately after opening. Do not use if the packaging is damaged, discolored, or if there are precipitates.
