How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered at a dosage of 50mg once daily in the morning as monotherapy or in combination with metformin, or 100mg divided into 50mg doses twice daily in the morning and evening. When combined with metformin or thiazolidinediones, the recommended dosage is 100mg, divided into 50mg doses twice daily in the morning and evening. When used in conjunction with sulfonylureas, the recommended dosage is 50mg once daily in the morning.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to the active ingredient or other components. This medication should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication. In clinical trials, most adverse reactions were mild and temporary, with no need to discontinue treatment. Liver function abnormalities, especially hepatitis, have been reported rarely but are usually asymptomatic and recover upon discontinuation of the medication. Angioedema may occur rarely, particularly when taken with ACE inhibitors, increasing its frequency. When this medication is used alongside other diabetes medications, caution is needed as hypoglycemic symptoms may arise. Particularly when combined with sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, requiring dosage adjustments. This medication does not replace insulin; patients who require insulin therapy must continue their insulin administration. Caution is advised in patients with very poor kidney function regarding the use of this medication. Regular liver function tests should be conducted, and if liver function markers significantly elevate, this medication should be discontinued. Use is not recommended in severe heart failure patients and caution is needed in mild to moderate cases. Abnormal symptoms such as blisters or ulcers may appear on the skin, so skin conditions should be monitored continuously. If acute pancreatitis symptoms arise, discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention. In case of symptoms such as dizziness, avoid driving or operating machinery. Severe arthralgia may occur, and if symptoms arise, discontinue use and consult with a healthcare provider. If skin conditions resembling bullous pemphigoid occur, consult a physician immediately, and discontinue the medication if necessary. Pregnant women should not use this medication, and breastfeeding women are also advised to avoid taking it. Elderly patients do not generally require dose adjustments, but this medication is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18, as safety and efficacy have not been established. There is no specific antidote for overdose; symptomatic support should be provided, and blood dialysis is ineffective at removing the medication. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided.
