This medicine is used when there is insufficient response to existing treatments or intolerance. It is mainly targeted at patients with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and moderate to severe active ulcerative colitis. Special care is required for elderly patients over 65, those at high cardiovascular risk, and patients at risk for malignancies. This medication may be used with methotrexate or other non-biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs but should not be used in combination with strong immunosuppressive biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs, azathioprine, or cyclosporine. Administration must be according to a physician's guidance for appropriate treatment for the patient. This medicine is effectively used in treating severe diseases.
