Precautions

This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. However, it can cause tendon-related issues such as tendonitis or tendon rupture; if pain or inflammation occurs, use should be stopped immediately. Additionally, peripheral neuropathy or central nervous system symptoms may occur, so if such symptoms manifest, consultation with a physician should be sought immediately. It is generally unsafe to use this drug for patients with myasthenia gravis, as it may exacerbate symptoms. This medication is intended for specific bacterial infections only and is recommended only when alternative treatment options are unavailable. Some patients using this drug may experience tendon rupture, with risks being higher in elderly individuals, patients with impaired renal function, those receiving high-dose treatment, and in patients co-administered with corticosteroids. Co-administration with corticosteroids should be avoided, and if tendonitis or tendon rupture symptoms occur, treatment should be stopped immediately and rest taken. Moreover, due to its neuromuscular blocking effect, this drug can cause severe side effects in patients with myasthenia gravis, so caution is advised. Patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or a history of tendonitis or tendon rupture from this drug or similar drugs, growing children or adolescents, pregnant or nursing women, epilepsy patients, and those with lactose intolerance should not use this medication. Patients with severely impaired renal function, a history of CNS diseases or seizures, those taking specific anti-inflammatory medications or theophylline, elderly patients, diabetics, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency patients, severe myasthenia gravis patients, and those with a history of aortic aneurysm or heart valve disease should exercise special caution when using this drug. This medication can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, psychiatric disorders, abnormal heart rhythms, renal and hepatic dysfunction, blood disorders, gastrointestinal disturbances, musculoskeletal issues, skin reactions, respiratory problems, and other adverse effects. If these symptoms arise, medical attention should be sought immediately. When using this drug, it is important to administer only for the necessary minimum duration after sensitivity testing, and patients with a history of seizures should be particularly cautious due to the risk of convulsions. Avoid excessive sun exposure, and take care when driving or operating machinery if symptoms like dizziness or drowsiness occur. This drug may interact with other medications, so it is important to consult with a physician or pharmacist, especially when taking anti-inflammatory drugs, antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, hypoglycemic agents, anticoagulants, etc. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication, and discontinuation of breastfeeding is recommended. Safety has not been established for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Elderly patients should be monitored closely for dosage adjustment due to possible increases in drug concentration from impaired renal function. In cases of overdose, immediately inform medical personnel and receive appropriate treatment; this medication is not effectively removed by hemodialysis.
