Improvement in blood glucose control for type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapies to effectively manage blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone for first-time users, and if blood glucose control is difficult with monotherapy, it may be combined with other diabetes medications such as metformin. Furthermore, it is often used alongside sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or insulin when sufficient blood glucose control is not achieved through monotherapy. If blood glucose control remains challenging despite various combination therapies, this drug can be added to enhance therapeutic effect. This medication helps improve blood glucose control, aiding in diabetes management.
This medication is administered once daily at a dose of 100 mg for monotherapy or combination therapy, with a maximum daily dose of 100 mg. Dosage adjustments are necessary for patients with kidney impairment. - Mild renal impairment: no dose adjustment required - Moderate renal impairment (eGFR 45-60): no dose adjustment required - Moderate renal impairment (eGFR 30-45): administer 50 mg once daily - Severe renal impairment
This medication may cause serious allergic reactions in some patients. If symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. This medication carries a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur while taking this medication, seek medical attention immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, or in those who have an allergy to this drug or its components. Patients with impaired renal function may require dosage adjustments, so it should be taken according to a doctor's instructions. This medication may cause side effects such as upper respiratory infections, headaches, dyspepsia, diarrhea, among others. Consult a doctor if symptoms are severe. Especially in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas, hypoglycemia may occur more frequently, so blood glucose levels should be checked regularly, and immediate measures should be taken if hypoglycemic symptoms arise. If severe joint pain or blister-like skin reactions occur, discontinue use immediately and consult medical personnel. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication, and safety and efficacy have not been established in children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Elderly patients should have their renal function regularly tested due to the likelihood of decreased renal function, which may require dosage adjustments. In case of overdose, treatment may include the removal of the drug from the gastrointestinal tract, and some may be removed by hemodialysis; thus, it is advisable to inform medical personnel in emergency situations.
