Treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, community-acquired pneumonia, etc.
This medication is used to treat infections caused by various bacteria. It is particularly effective against a range of pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. It is used for various respiratory and skin infections, including complicated skin and soft tissue infections, community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and acute sinusitis. Additionally, it is effective for urinary tract infections such as chronic bacterial prostatitis and complicated urinary tract infections, as well as simple urinary tract infections. As a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, it carries a risk of serious adverse reactions and is used only when other treatments are ineffective. Therefore, if used appropriately as needed, it can effectively improve the symptoms of infections.
For adults, levofloxacin is usually administered orally once daily at a dose of 250-750 mg. For patients with normal renal function (creatinine clearance exceeding 80 mL/min): - Complicated skin and soft tissue infections: 750 mg every 24 hours for 10-14 days - Community-acquired pneumonia: 500 mg every 24 hours for 7 days - Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 7 days - Acute sinusitis: 10-14 days - Chronic bacterial prostatitis: 28 days - Complicated urinary tract infections, including moderate to mild acute pyelonephritis: 250 mg every 24 hours for 10 days - Simple urinary tract infections of moderate to mild severity: 3 days.
This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. However, it can cause tendon problems such as tendinitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system adverse reactions, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis. If any serious side effects occur, the use of this medication should be stopped immediately, and similar class medications should not be used. Patients with myasthenia gravis should not use this medication as it may worsen symptoms. This medication is only recommended for specific bacterial infections and should be used only when no alternative treatment options are available. Extra caution is needed in elderly patients, those with poor kidney function, organ transplant recipients, and those taking corticosteroids, as there is an increased risk of tendon rupture. Additionally, this medication may provoke seizures or increase the risk of convulsions, so caution is advised in patients with epilepsy or central nervous system disorders. It can cause a variety of side effects such as allergic reactions, severe skin reactions, liver function abnormalities, blood disorders, gastrointestinal issues, and renal function decline. In particular, if severe allergic symptoms, skin rashes, or photosensitivity reactions occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately and consultation with healthcare professionals is advised. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery as symptoms such as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. Furthermore, it has many drug interactions, so care should be taken when taking it with antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, warfarin, theophylline, and others. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and growing children or adolescents should not use this medication. In cases of overdose, symptoms related to the central nervous system and cardiac abnormalities may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. During the period of taking this medication, it is crucial to closely monitor for the occurrence of side effects and consult a doctor immediately if any abnormal symptoms arise.
