Efficacy & effects

Nutritional improvement through the supply of trace elements (such as zinc and copper).

View approved original text

When providing parenteral nutrition, trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, and chromium play an important role in maintaining a balanced nutritional status of the patient and normalizing body functions. These trace elements help enhance immunity, promote cell regeneration, and have antioxidant effects, facilitating the recovery of patients. Therefore, these trace elements significantly contribute to improving nutritional imbalance and maintaining health when used alongside intravenous nutrition.

Precautions

This medication contains benzyl alcohol, which can cause life-threatening respiratory problems in premature infants; therefore, it should not be used in neonates or premature infants. Direct injection without dilution can cause inflammation of the blood vessels; it must be diluted before use, and since it is a hypotonic solution, it is safe to use only in mixed injections. If any signs of toxicity appear from any ingredient during administration, use should be immediately discontinued. Caution is particularly needed for patients with impaired kidney function or premature infants due to the risk of toxicity from aluminum. Before injection, the physician must carefully assess the patient’s condition and the required amount of trace elements, and frequently check serum trace element levels to adjust the dosage. Patients with renal failure may have difficulty excreting zinc, leading to accumulation in the body, and patients with biliary obstruction are at risk of accumulation of copper and manganese, so caution is required. Diabetic patients must ensure that chromium may affect blood sugar control, and must confirm diabetes treatment. Patients with kidney or gastrointestinal problems should adjust the selenium dosage accordingly. The safety of this medication has not been established for pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, so it should only be used cautiously when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. In cases of overdose, symptoms of toxicity from zinc, copper, chromium, and selenium may arise, and in such cases, immediate communication with medical personnel and appropriate treatment is necessary. This medication should not be used without a doctor’s prescription, and when added to non-oral nutritional solutions, aseptic conditions must be maintained for safety. Before administration, ensure the solution is not discolored or mixed with foreign substances, and store in a dry, cool place out of reach of children. Additionally, transferring it to other containers should be avoided as it may cause quality degradation or accidents.
