This medication is used as an adjunct to diet for the reduction of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, and for increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly in heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia. These drugs must be used in conjunction with dietary modifications to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease and are administered when non-pharmacologic therapy is insufficient. Secondary causes of dyslipidemia such as diabetes and hypothyroidism should be evaluated and treated prior to administration, and a lipid test should be conducted to assess the accurate condition. Pharmacotherapy should be adjusted according to the patient’s risk factors and test results, and lipid levels should be measured to guide treatment initiation during acute coronary events. This medication helps maintain a healthy cholesterol balance and improves vascular health.
