Precautions

This medication is an antidepressant used for the treatment of psychiatric disorders such as major depression. Care should be taken as this medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or suicidal behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults aged 18 to 24. All patients taking this medication should be closely monitored for abnormal behavior changes such as suicidal tendencies, worsening depression, and aggression, particularly at the beginning of treatment and during dosage changes. It is also important for family members or guardians to closely observe the patient's condition and to guide them to consult a physician immediately if abnormal signs occur. This medication should not be taken with certain other medications, especially monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), pimodivir, or drugs that prolong the QT interval, as serious side effects may occur. Patients with closed-angle glaucoma or a history of glaucoma should use this medication with caution because pupil dilation may raise intraocular pressure. Side effects such as anxiety, insomnia, dizziness, changes in appetite, and gastrointestinal disturbances may occur during the initial 1-2 weeks of taking this medication, but most will decrease over time. In particular, this medication may cause heart rhythm disturbances, so patients with heart disease or a long QT interval may require an electrocardiogram prior to and during treatment. Additionally, abrupt discontinuation of this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, anxiety, and sleep disturbances; therefore, dosage should be gradually reduced under a physician's guidance. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a physician as the use of this medication may affect the newborn. The elderly should start with a lower dosage and adjust the dosage carefully, and they may need to be cautious when driving or operating machinery. Overdose of this medication may lead to severe symptoms affecting the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, and gastrointestinal system, so immediate medical attention is required. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children and adolescents have not been established, and its use is not recommended.
