Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also used as an adjunct for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, whether or not accompanied by secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it is effective in alleviating the symptoms of fibromyalgia. This medication is widely used for various neurological disorders and pain management.
This medication is taken orally, divided into two doses per day regardless of meals. - Neuropathic pain peripheral and central: Starting dose 150mg per day, can be increased to 300mg per day after 3 to 7 days, maximum dose can be increased to 600mg per day. - Epilepsy: Starting dose 150mg per day, can be increased to 300mg per day after one week, maximum dose can be increased to 600mg per day. - Fibromyalgia
The use of this medication is not recommended for children under the age of 12 and adolescents aged 12 to 17 due to insufficient safety and efficacy data.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so if any signs of depression or mood changes occur during treatment, it should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. Patients who are allergic to any component of this medication or have certain hereditary lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients may need to adjust their dosage of blood glucose control medication due to weight gain. If symptoms of angioedema occur, the medication should be stopped immediately, and caution is necessary for the elderly due to the risk of accidents from dizziness or drowsiness. Blurred vision or changes in eyesight may occur, and if these symptoms arise, consultation with a healthcare professional is advisable. Sudden discontinuation of this medication may result in withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety, so it should be tapered off gradually according to a healthcare professional's instructions. Patients with a history of substance abuse are at higher risk of misuse with this medication, requiring caution during administration. Patients with impaired renal function may require dosage adjustments. Patients with heart disease should use this medication with caution, and concurrent use with opioid analgesics may increase the risk of central nervous system depression. In early pregnancy, this medication may affect the fetus, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a healthcare professional and use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional before taking this medication as it can be transferred to breast milk and affect the infant. Activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, should be avoided until dizziness or drowsiness has resolved after taking this medication. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, seizures, etc., may occur, so the dosage should be adhered to, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, a healthcare facility should be contacted immediately. Keep out of reach of children and ensure it is not transferred to other containers.
