Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment of partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, applicable to cases with or without secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it is effective for the treatment of fibromyalgia. These benefits help alleviate pain and control seizures.
This medication is taken orally in two divided doses daily, regardless of meals. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg daily, which may be increased to 300 mg daily after 3 to 7 days, and then further increased to a maximum of 600 mg daily at intervals of 7 days. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg daily, which may be increased to 300 mg daily after one week.
The safety and efficacy of this medication in patients under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 have not been sufficiently established, therefore its use is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so any changes in mood or behavior during treatment should be reported to healthcare professionals. Individuals with a hypersensitivity to this medication's ingredients should not take it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may require adjustments in blood sugar control medication dosages. If symptoms of angioedema occur, use should be stopped immediately, especially if there is swelling around the face or mouth, which requires prompt action. Elderly patients should take special caution due to the increased risk of falls from dizziness or drowsiness while taking this medication; instances of loss of consciousness or confusion have also been reported. Temporary visual disturbances or changes in vision may occur, and patients experiencing these symptoms should consult healthcare professionals. Discontinuing this medication suddenly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, or anxiety, so it should be tapered off gradually under medical guidance. Due to the risk of abuse, patients with mental health issues or a history of substance abuse should be particularly careful and monitored for signs of misuse or dependence. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments, so they should consult healthcare professionals. Patients with heart disease should use this medication cautiously due to the risk of heart-related issues, such as congestive heart failure. When taken with opioid analgesics, there may be an increased risk of central nervous system depression and respiratory depression, so caution is advised. In early pregnancy, there may be a risk of fetal malformations, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should always consult a healthcare professional before use and should ensure effective contraception is used. Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, facial swelling, oral and upper airway edema, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/eye mucosal pain, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, difficulty or trouble breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), extreme lethargy
