Efficacy & effects

Improvement of nutritional status through trace element supply

View approved original text

When providing parenteral nutrition, trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, and chromium are supplied together to maintain the mineral balance in the body and improve nutritional status. These trace elements support metabolism and immune function and play an important role in wound healing and maintaining cell function. Therefore, these trace elements are essential to be supplied during intravenous nutrition therapy to aid the patient's recovery.

How it is given

Adult administration

Use as prescribed by a physician, adjusting dosage based on plasma trace element levels. For patients receiving metabolically stable non-oral nutritional solutions: Zinc 2.5-4 mg per day, Copper 0.5-1.5 mg per day, Manganese 0.15-0.8 mg per day, Chromium 10-15 µg per day, Selenium 20-40 µg per day. Precautions

This medication is not recommended for premature infants and newborns. It contains benzyl alcohol, which can cause serious respiratory problems in premature infants. Injecting this medication into the vein without dilution may cause inflammation of the blood vessels, so it must be diluted before use. Furthermore, it is suitable for use only as a mixed injection due to its hypotonic nature. If any component shows toxicity during administration, use should be discontinued immediately, and caution should be exercised in patients with impaired renal function to avoid toxicity risks due to aluminum accumulation; long-term administration should be avoided. The trace elements including zinc, copper, manganese, chromium, and selenium contained in this medication typically do not show toxic symptoms if the prescribed dosage is maintained, but it is important to frequently monitor the patient's condition and blood levels. Particularly, patients with renal failure, biliary obstruction, and diabetes should use this medication carefully according to a physician's direction as these trace elements may accumulate in the body or affect metabolism. For pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, there is insufficient research on the effects of this medication on the fetus, hence it should only be used when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. Overdose may lead to toxic symptoms from zinc, copper, chromium, and selenium, such as vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension, and neurological abnormalities, so medical staff should be notified immediately. This medication must be used under a physician's prescription, and before injection, it is important to check for discoloration or foreign substances in the solution and prepare it in a sterile condition. During storage, keep it in a sealed container to prevent air and moisture from entering and store it in a safe place away from children’s reach, avoiding transferring it to other containers.
