This medication lowers total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol to target levels, slowing the progression of atherosclerosis and improving cardiovascular health. It is also used as an adjunct to dietary therapy in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and is effective in reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and vascular revascularization in middle-aged and older patients with a high risk of cardiovascular disease. This drug is used for a variety of dyslipidemias and to reduce cardiovascular disease risk.
