Improvement of essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

Essential hypertension is a condition characterized by persistently high blood pressure, which can place stress on the heart and blood vessels. This medication helps to reliably lower blood pressure and protect heart and vascular health. Through consistent treatment, it can reduce the risk of complications and help maintain a smooth daily life. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, it may be increased to 20 mg once daily. The maximum dose can be increased to 40 mg daily. Elderly patients (65 years and older) do not require dose adjustment. Patients with mild to moderate renal impairment should have a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. Patients with mild hepatic impairment do not require dose adjustment.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be used in patients with allergies to any of the ingredients, in pregnant or nursing women, patients undergoing renal dialysis, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with bile duct obstruction, certain genetically predisposed lactose intolerant patients, and specific diabetic patients or patients with moderate to severe renal function impairment. Patients with reduced blood volume or sodium may experience hypotension, so conditions should be monitored closely prior to administration and appropriate measures should be taken as necessary. Patients with renal impairment, renal transplant recipients, patients with renovascular hypertension, patients at risk of hyperkalemia, and patients with aortic and mitral stenosis should use this medication with caution and avoid dangerous tasks or driving due to symptoms of dizziness caused by blood pressure reduction. This medication may cause relatively mild side effects such as dizziness, headache, back pain, dyspepsia, and cough, while serious reactions such as facial swelling or angioedema have been reported rarely. If symptoms similar to chronic malabsorption syndrome, such as chronic diarrhea and weight loss occur, the use of this medication should be discontinued, and if symptoms of intestinal angioedema arise, treatment should be stopped immediately and monitored. Interactions may occur when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, lithium, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, so caution is needed. Due to the risks to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, this medication should be discontinued if pregnancy occurs, and nursing women should consider stopping breastfeeding or the medication, as it might affect the baby. Safety in children has not been established, so caution is advised for use, and elderly patients may require dose adjustments due to potentially increased levels of the drug in the body. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and palpitations may appear, and appropriate treatment should be administered if necessary.
