Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Do not increase the dose or stop taking this medicine without your doctor's instructions. 1. Essential hypertension 1) Adults (1) For the first 2 days, take 12.5 mg of carvedilol orally once daily, then take 25 mg orally once daily. (2) The usual dose is 25 mg orally once daily for 2 weeks. If a dose increase is needed, increase to 25 mg twice daily. The maximum dose per administration is 25 mg, and the maximum daily dose is 50 mg. 2) Elderly patients In some elderly patients, 12.5 mg once daily may provide an adequate effect. However, the dose may be increased if the effect is inadequate after 2 weeks of treatment. 2. Chronic stable angina 1) For the first 2 days, take 12.5 mg of this medicine orally twice daily, then take 25 mg orally twice daily. 2) The usual dose is 25 mg twice daily for 2 weeks. If an increase is needed (excluding elderly patients), the dose may be increased to 50 mg twice daily. 3. Congestive heart failure Before starting treatment with this medicine, the patient's existing standard therapy (conventional treatment for chronic heart failure with an ACE inhibitor, a diuretic, and usually a digitalis preparation) must be stable. Fluid retention should also be minimized before starting treatment with this medicine. 1) The usual initial dose is 3.125 mg of this medicine orally twice daily for 2 weeks. If the patient tolerates this treatment well, increase the dose to 6.25 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, then to 12.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, and then to 25 mg twice daily. 2) After taking each dose for at least 2 weeks, increase the dose gradually to the highest dose tolerated by the patient. 3) The minimum effective dose is 6.25 mg twice daily. The maximum dose is 25 mg twice daily for patients weighing 85 kg or less, and 50 mg twice daily for patients weighing over 85 kg. 4) To regulate the rate of absorption, it is recommended that this medicine be taken with meals in the morning and evening. Taking it with meals slows absorption and may reduce the incidence of orthostatic hypotension.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, it may be dangerous for individuals allergic to this medication or its components, those suffering from cardiogenic shock, patients with significantly slow heart rates or conduction issues, those with cor pulmonale, individuals with metabolic disorders due to diabetes, patients with severely impaired cardiac function, and those with asthma or chronic pulmonary diseases. Additionally, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients with severe liver impairment, and those with peripheral circulatory disorders should avoid this medication. It is also unsuitable for individuals genetically unable to digest lactose. When administering this medication, special care should be taken for diabetes patients, those with severe allergy histories or sensitivity to beta-blockers, patients with hypotension, individuals with impaired kidney function, and elderly patients. Mild symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, and fatigue may occur during treatment, and there may also be cases of excessively slow heart rates or dangerously low blood pressure. Symptoms of heart failure may worsen, so regular cardiac function testing is necessary. Various side effects such as liver function changes, skin rashes, and blood abnormalities can occur; if any abnormal symptoms arise, immediate consultation with medical professionals is required. Long-term use of this medication necessitates regular testing of cardiac, liver, and kidney functions. Abrupt discontinuation can exacerbate heart symptoms, so it is crucial to gradually reduce the dosage as directed by a physician. Due to potential interactions with other medications, it is important to inform medical personnel of all medications being taken, as this can affect blood pressure and heart rate. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication, and its safety in children or adolescents under 18 has not been established. Elderly patients may experience increased drug concentrations due to reduced liver function, thus should start at lower dosages and be monitored closely. In cases of overdose, serious symptoms such as low blood pressure, decreased heart rate, and impaired heart function may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention and appropriate treatment. This medication may discolor when exposed to light, so it should be stored in a light-blocking container and kept out of reach of children.
