Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunctive treatment for patients with epilepsy who have partial seizures, effective regardless of the presence of secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it helps in the treatment of fibromyalgia. Due to these diverse effects, it is used to improve various neurological symptoms.
This medication is pregabalin, to be taken orally in divided doses twice daily regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic pain 1) Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day, may increase to 300 mg per day within 3 to 7 days, and can further increase to a maximum of 600 mg per day at intervals of 7 days thereafter. 2) Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day, may increase to 300 mg per day after 1 week.
The safety and efficacy data are insufficient for individuals under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12-17 years, therefore administration is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so if mood changes or depressive symptoms arise during treatment, consult a doctor immediately. Individuals allergic to any components of this medication or those with certain genetic disorders should not take it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may require adjustments to blood sugar control medications. If allergic reactions such as swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue this medication immediately and inform healthcare personnel. Elderly individuals are at a higher risk for falls due to dizziness or drowsiness, so extra caution is needed during the early stage of treatment. This medication can cause temporary blurred vision or changes in vision, and if these symptoms arise, consult a doctor. Suddenly stopping this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, and anxiety, so it should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's advice. Patients with a history of substance abuse should be monitored closely while taking this medication due to the risk of misuse. Patients with reduced kidney function may need to adjust the dosage of this medication; taking it without dosage adjustment can increase the risk of side effects. Patients with heart disease need to be cautious while taking this medication, especially those with congestive heart failure must be administered carefully. Caution is advised when taking this medication with opioid analgesics as it can amplify central nervous system depressant effects, which may increase the risk of respiratory distress. During early pregnancy, this may affect the fetus, therefore women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a doctor before use. Women who are breastfeeding should consult healthcare professionals since this medication can be transferred into breast milk. Activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, should be avoided until dizziness or drowsiness subsides post-consumption of this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and depression may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination problems

This medication should be kept in a well-sealed container to prevent exposure to air and moisture, stored at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. This way of storage helps to maintain the efficacy of the medication and ensure its safe usage.
