This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also effective as an adjunct therapy for partial seizures in epilepsy patients, with or without secondary generalized symptoms. In addition, it helps alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia. It is widely utilized for various neurological diseases, improving patient symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication, pregabalin, is taken orally in divided doses twice a day regardless of meals. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day; may be increased to 300 mg per day within 3 to 7 days, and if necessary, may be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day, to be increased to 300 mg per day after one week.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so if any abnormal changes in mood or behavior occur while taking it, inform your healthcare provider immediately. Do not take this medication if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients or if you have certain genetic lactase deficiency. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain after taking this medication may require adjustments to their blood sugar control medications. If serious allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult your healthcare provider. Elderly patients should be careful when taking this medication due to an increased risk of falls or injuries caused by dizziness or drowsiness. There may be temporary blurred vision or changes in eyesight; if these symptoms occur, consult your healthcare provider. Patients with severe heart disease or impaired kidney function should consult their healthcare provider prior to taking this medication to determine the appropriate dose adjustment. When taking this medication with opioid analgesics, the risk of central nervous system depression increases, and serious side effects such as breathing difficulties may occur; caution is advised. In early pregnancy, there may be a risk of congenital malformations in the fetus, so it is advisable not to take this medication during pregnancy, and sexually active women should use effective contraception. During breastfeeding, as this medication may be passed into breast milk and affect the baby, consult your healthcare provider about whether to discontinue nursing or the medication. This medication may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery after taking it. In case of overdose, symptoms may include confusion, drowsiness, and seizures; seek emergency treatment immediately.
