Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment of partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medicine effectively treats peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also used as an adjunct for patients with epilepsy who have either secondary generalized symptoms or partial seizures. Additionally, it helps relieve pain associated with fibromyalgia. It is widely used for improving the symptoms of various neurological diseases.
This medication is taken orally in two divided doses per day, regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: The initial dose is 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3-7 days. If necessary, the dose can be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at intervals of 7 days. - Central neuropathic pain: The initial dose is 150 mg per day; after one week, it can be increased to 300 mg per day.
Safety and efficacy data is insufficient for children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12 to 17, so administration is not recommended.
This drug may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so if mood changes or abnormal behavioral changes occur during treatment, it's important to inform a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with allergies to any of the ingredients in this drug, or those with specific genetic issues such as lactose intolerance, should not take it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain associated with this medication may necessitate adjustments in blood glucose control medication doses. If symptoms of angioedema occur, use of the medication should be stopped immediately. Elderly patients should be careful due to the risk of falls from dizziness or drowsiness. Blurred vision or changes in vision may occur, so consult a healthcare provider if these symptoms arise. Suddenly stopping this medication can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, so it should be tapered off gradually following a doctor's instruction. Due to the risk of drug abuse, patients with a history of mental illness or substance abuse should exercise particular caution. Patients with reduced kidney function should have their doses adjusted, and those with heart disease should take this medication carefully. Co-administration with drugs that have central nervous system depressant effects may increase the risk of respiratory depression, so caution is required. During early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformations; therefore, women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this medication and use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consider that the drug may be excreted in breast milk, with safety for infants not established, hence stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing the medication should be considered. Activities that require attention, such as driving or operating machinery, should be avoided until dizziness or drowsiness has resolved after taking this medication. An overdose may result in confusion, drowsiness, and depression; in severe cases, emergency treatment such as dialysis may be required. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer the medication to other containers for safety.
