Treatment of dermatophytosis (tinea pedis, tinea corporis, etc.) and onychomycosis
This medication is used to treat tinea pedis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, and onychomycosis caused by dermatophytes in adults. It is also used for the treatment of tinea capitis in children. In short, it helps effectively improve various dermatophyte infections.
As terbinafine, 125 mg once twice daily or 250 mg once daily. The duration of administration depends on the disease as follows: 1) Dermatophyte infections - Tinea pedis (interdigital type, plantar type/moccasin type): 2 to 6 weeks - Tinea corporis: 2 to 4 weeks - Tinea cruris: 2 to 4 weeks 2) Onychomycosis - Usually administered for 6 weeks to 3 months. If the infection is in the fingernail or a relatively small toe, the duration may be reduced to less than 3 months.
Administered to children over 2 years of age. Tinea capitis: 4 weeks 1) Weight under 20 kg (under 5 years): 62.5 mg once daily. Due to limited experience in administration, the benefits and risks of treatment must be considered.
This medication is not recommended for patients with chronic or active liver disease. You must check for liver disease before taking this medication and undergo regular liver function tests (AST/ALT) before and during treatment. If symptoms suggestive of liver dysfunction (persistent nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, vomiting, upper right abdominal pain, jaundice, etc.) occur, inform your doctor immediately and discontinue the medication. Hepatic failure can occur very rarely, so if liver damage progresses, discontinue use and conduct liver function tests. This medication should not be administered to patients with allergies to its components, blood disorders, severe renal failure, infants under 2 years of age, nursing mothers, or patients with certain hereditary lactose metabolism disorders. Caution should be exercised when administering to patients with renal impairment, the elderly, children under 20 kg, and patients with psoriasis or systemic lupus erythematosus. If serious skin reactions occur during treatment, discontinue use and seek medical attention immediately. This medication can cause various adverse reactions, including effects on the liver, blood, skin, musculoskeletal system, digestive system, and nervous system, so consult a doctor if any symptoms occur. This medication should only be used for fungal infections that cannot be treated topically, and if symptoms such as dizziness occur, driving or operating machinery should be avoided. There may be interactions with other medications, especially those affecting liver metabolism, so dosing adjustments and careful monitoring are necessary. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should use it with careful consideration of the treatment benefits and risks, and if nursing, breastfeeding should be discontinued. Children and the elderly may require special caution as drug concentrations may increase due to impaired liver or kidney function. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, abdominal pain, or dizziness may appear and immediate medical attention should be sought.
Hepatic failure, hepatitis, cholestasis, jaundice, neutropenia, pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, erythema multiforme, toxic skin rash, exfoliative dermatitis, bullous dermatitis, rhabdomyolysis, hypotension, respiratory distress, chest tightness, urticaria, anaphylactoid reactions, angioedema, systemic lupus erythematosus, severe skin reactions.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air and moisture from entering. It is advisable to store it at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
