Treatment of community-acquired pneumonia, complex urinary tract infections, etc.
This medication is effective against various bacteria including Enterococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. It is mainly used for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia, acute pyelonephritis including complex urinary tract infections, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, acute sinusitis, and acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. However, since it is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, it is important to use it only when there are no other treatment options available for certain symptoms. Overall, it aids in the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections.
Administered by intravenous drip once or twice daily. The dosage is determined by the type and severity of the infection, as well as the susceptibility of the suspected causative bacteria. Generally, after the first few days of intravenous administration, it can be converted to oral administration based on the patient's condition, and the oral dosage will be the same as the intravenous dosage. The treatment duration must continue for at least 48 to 72 hours after evidence of defervescence or sterilization.
This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. However, it can cause serious side effects such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system effects, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis. If these symptoms occur, use should be stopped immediately, and it should not be administered to patients with myasthenia gravis. When administered as an injection, it should be infused slowly over a certain period of time, and if blood pressure drops sharply during the infusion, the administration should be stopped immediately. Additionally, concomitant use with corticosteroids increases the risk of tendon rupture, so co-administration should be avoided. Symptoms of tendonitis or tendon rupture should be heeded, with rest recommended. Quinolone antibiotics can exacerbate symptoms in patients with myasthenia gravis, so caution is needed. Patients with hypersensitivity, epilepsy, a history of tendonitis/rupture, growing children and adolescents, pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication. Patients with a history of seizure disorders, those taking specific anti-inflammatory drugs or theophylline, suspected central nervous system disorders, severe renal impairment, diabetes, or a history of aortic aneurysm or heart valve disease should be administered this medication carefully. This medication can cause various side effects including allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances, neurological problems, cardiovascular issues, musculoskeletal problems, liver and kidney function abnormalities, and hematological abnormalities. If any symptoms appear, notify medical staff immediately. Additionally, this medication can induce photosensitivity, so exposure to strong sunlight or artificial UV light should be avoided, and care should be taken when driving or operating machinery due to dizziness or drowsiness. It is advisable not to use for prophylactic purposes without evidence of infection, and adequate hydration is necessary. Patients with diabetes should closely monitor blood sugar fluctuations, and there is a possibility of drug interactions, so any medications being taken must be disclosed. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication, nor should it be administered to growing children and adolescents. Elderly patients may require dose adjustments due to reduced kidney function. In case of overdose, central nervous system symptoms and heart abnormalities may arise, and immediate medical attention is necessary, as this drug is not removed by hemodialysis. Finally, this medication should not be mixed with certain solutions and should be used promptly after opening. Store it protected from light and maintain sealed packaging for proper preservation.
