Treatment of infections (respiratory, skin, and mycobacterial); Helicobacter pylori eradication for duodenal ulcers
This medication is used to treat lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, as well as upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis and sinusitis. It is also effective for skin and skin structure infections, and is indicated for specific mycobacterial infections, namely Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracellulare infections. In patients with duodenal ulcers, it is used to eradicate Helicobacter pylori bacteria. This drug helps improve various bacterial infections.
○ Adults: The usual dose of clarithromycin is 250mg (potency) twice daily; for severe infections, administer 500mg (potency) twice daily. The usual duration of treatment is 7~14 days. In patients with renal failure and creatinine clearance of 30mL/min or less, the dose should be reduced by half. That is, administer 250mg (potency) once daily, or, for severe infections, 250mg (potency) twice daily. Do not administer this drug to these patients for more than 14 days. ○ Mycobacterial infections: Administer 500mg (potency) of this drug twice daily. In this case, it should be administered in combination with other antimycobacterial agents such as ethambutol, clofazimine, and rifampin. ○ Helicobacter pylori eradication in patients with duodenal ulcers: For 14 days, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug three times daily in combination with omeprazole 40mg once daily, followed by omeprazole 40mg once daily for 14 consecutive days. That is, administer clarithromycin 500mg (potency) per dose three times daily for 14 days (days 1~14), and omeprazole 40mg once daily for 28 days (days 1~28).
○ Children 12 years of age and older: Same as adults. ○ Children under 12 years of age: Use clarithromycin dry syrup.
