Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used for the relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also used as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, effective regardless of the presence of secondary general symptoms. Additionally, it helps treat symptoms of fibromyalgia. In summary, it is used for neuropathic pain, adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in epilepsy, and treatment of fibromyalgia.
This medication should be taken orally, divided into two doses per day, regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day; may increase to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days, and if necessary, can be increased to a maximum of 600 mg at 7-day intervals. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day; may increase to 300 mg after 1 week.
There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12-17, so use is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior. Therefore, if there are changes in mood or abnormal behavior during treatment, consulting a physician immediately is essential. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or genetic issues like lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetes patients should be cautious as weight gain may require adjustments in blood sugar control medications. If allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and medical personnel should be informed. The elderly should be particularly careful in the initial stages of treatment due to the risk of falling or injury from dizziness and drowsiness. If there are changes in vision or other persistent abnormalities, notify a physician. Stopping this medication abruptly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety; tapering off according to a physician's instructions is recommended. Patients with a history of substance abuse should use this medication cautiously due to the potential for misuse or dependence. Patients with reduced kidney function may require dosage adjustments. Caution is advised for patients with heart disease while taking this medication. When taken with opioid analgesics, there is a risk of central nervous system depression; caution is advised when combining these medications. Patients with respiratory or neurological conditions, or the elderly, are at higher risk of severe respiratory depression; they may require dosage adjustments. Pregnant women should not take this medication in early pregnancy due to the risk of fetal malformations, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding may transmit this medication to breast milk and affect infants; consider discontinuing either breastfeeding or the medication. Before driving or operating hazardous machinery, ensure that the medication does not cause dizziness or drowsiness. Severe skin reactions may occur; discontinue immediately and consult with medical personnel if there are any skin abnormalities. In case of overdose, symptoms may include altered consciousness, drowsiness, and depression, and treatment such as dialysis may be required.
