Dosage for adults with renal impairment should be adjusted according to renal function (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR]). - Normal renal function (≥ 90 mL/min): 5 mg once daily - Mild renal impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 5 mg once daily - Moderate renal impairment (30 -< 60 mL/min): 5 mg every other day

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with known allergy to any of its ingredients or those who have had a hypersensitivity reaction to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It should also not be administered to patients with end-stage renal disease or those undergoing hemodialysis. Do not use this medication in infants under 1 year of age, and for children under 6 years, an oral solution should be used instead of tablets. The solution contains a substance called maltitol, so patients with congenital fructose malabsorption should avoid it. Caution should be exercised when using this medication in patients with impaired kidney or liver function, as well as in the elderly, since it may remain in the body longer and increase the risk of side effects. Taking this medication can cause neurological symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, as well as gastrointestinal disturbances including nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Rarely, cardiac arrhythmias, blood dyscrasias, skin rashes, and ocular symptoms may also occur. Drowsiness or fatigue may occur after taking the medication, so care should be taken when driving or operating machinery, and co-administration with alcohol or central nervous system depressants should be avoided. Patients with urinary tract obstruction or epilepsy should be particularly cautious. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before using this medication as it may impact the fetus or newborn. Since this medication is primarily excreted through the kidneys, elderly patients with decreased kidney function should start at a lower dose and be monitored closely. It may be necessary to temporarily discontinue this medication prior to allergy testing for accurate results. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness or restlessness may occur, and as there is no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment should be provided. This medication is also poorly removed by hemodialysis.
