This medication is used as an adjunct to diet for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia when these conditions cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone. It can also be administered as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This drug effectively lowers total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol to target levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia, helping to delay the progression of atherosclerosis. It is also used as an adjunct to dietary therapy in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia. It assists in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and artery revascularization in men over 50 years and women over 60 years with elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels beyond certain thresholds. Therefore, this medication is effectively used to improve hyperlipidemia and the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
