Treatment for improving hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
This drug is used as an adjunct for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient. It is also used in conjunction with diet or other lipid-lowering therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. In patients with hypercholesterolemia, it helps lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, thereby slowing the progression of atherosclerosis. It is also used as an adjunct to the diet for patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia. Additionally, it contributes to reducing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and complications following arterial revascularization in men over the age of 50 and women over the age of 60 with elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels and other cardiovascular disease risk factors. This drug effectively improves dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease risk.
Administer once daily at any time of the day, with or without food. The initial dose is 5 milligrams once daily, and if greater LDL cholesterol reduction is needed, the maintenance dose can be adjusted accordingly. The maintenance dose is typically 10 milligrams once daily, where most patients are regulated at this dose. The maintenance dose should be appropriately adjusted based on LDL cholesterol levels, treatment goals, and patient response, typically at intervals of 4 weeks or longer.
