Improvement of peripheral and central neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It also provides adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, effective both with and without secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it helps in the treatment of fibromyalgia. Through these effects, it can improve nerve-related pain and seizure symptoms.
This medication is administered orally in two divided doses per day, regardless of meals. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day, may increase to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days, maximum dosage can be increased to 600 mg. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg per day, increase to 300 mg per day after one week, followed by further increase to 600 mg per day after one week.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so if you experience symptoms of depression or any abnormal changes in mood or behavior while taking it, you should inform your healthcare provider immediately. This medication should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to its components. In diabetic patients, weight gain may occur while taking this medication, necessitating dosage adjustments of blood sugar control medications. If allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, discontinue use immediately and consult your healthcare provider. Elderly patients may experience dizziness or drowsiness when taking this medication, increasing their risk of falls, and symptoms of loss of consciousness or confusion may also be observed. Some patients may experience blurred vision or changes in eyesight; if these symptoms occur, inform your healthcare provider. When discontinuing this medication, withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety may occur, so it should be reduced gradually according to your healthcare provider's instructions. Patients with a history of substance abuse may be at higher risk of abuse with this medication, so they should be monitored closely. Patients with impaired renal function may require dose adjustments, and patients with heart failure should use with caution. Caution is advised when taking this medication with opioid analgesics as it may increase the risk of central nervous system depression. This medication carries a risk of respiratory depression, and dose adjustments may be necessary for patients with respiratory diseases, renal impairment, or elderly patients. During early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformations, so women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should ensure they consult before taking this medication and use effective contraceptive methods. Breastfeeding women should consult their healthcare provider about the possibility of this medication being passed into breast milk and discuss whether to discontinue breastfeeding or the medication. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery, so caution should be exercised until these symptoms are confirmed. If serious skin reactions such as rashes, fever, or vomiting occur while taking this medication, discontinue it immediately and inform your healthcare provider. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and seizures may occur. Seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. Keep this medication out of reach of children, and do not transfer it to another container for safety.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, feeling of chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blisters, peeling skin, pain in mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, severe skin adverse reactions, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), extreme lethargy, liver problems (jaundice), sudden and severe headaches, lightning-like pain
